Today at WWDC 2011, Apple is previewing iOS 5 for the first time. Many great new features were shown at WWDC 2011. These include:

- Notifications – totally redesigned the way they should be, Notification Center, doesn’t disturb what you’re doing, multiple notifications
- News Stand – like iBooks for newspaper subscriptions with automatic download and offline reading
- Twitter integration – Twitter is fully integrated into iOS for apps like Safari and Camera
- Safari – adds Reading List and tabbed browsing
- Reminders – new Reminders app allows multiple lists and reminders based on location
- Camera – much faster, optional grid lines, pinch to zoom, hold finger for autofocus AEL, edit from iPhone
- Mail – rich text, dragging addresses, flagging, search entire messages, S/MIME
- No need for Computer – activate without computer, software updates over-the-air, updates only what’s changed
- Game Center – avatars, achievements points, more friends features, game discovery, purchase games directly from Game Center, turn-based games now supported on OS level
- iMessage – message service between all iOS 5 devices, text messages, photos, videos, contacts, group messaging, delivery receipts, read receipts, indicates recipient is typing, pushed to all devices, can switch from iPhone to iPad
- WiFi Sync to iTunes – while charging at night will automatically sync and backup to iTunes
This is an incredible update with so many new features. The iOS 5 update will be available this fall for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPad 2, iPod touch (3rd generation), and iPod touch (4th generation). Thanks to MacRumors for the live coverage.
