As reported by Engadget, Samsung has raised the platter density on its new Spinpoint M8 1TB 2.5-inch hard drive to 500GB per platter instead of the typical 334GB for 1TB drives. This means that instead of using three platters like the competing offerings from Toshiba and Western Digital, this drive uses only two platters and finally allows a 1TB 2.5-inch drive with a 9.5mm z-height!

Apple just announced a release date and price for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference 2011. Mac OS X Lion will only be available in the Mac App Store and will be available for purchase in July at $29.99. The download will be 4GB and can be bought once and then installed on all Macs like other Mac App Store purchases.
Today, Apple released updates to its iWork apps for iOS in the form of Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. All three apps now carry the version number of 1.4. LTE is firmly set as the next major mobile data technology across the industry. Verizon is on track to meet its goal of LTE in 175 markets by year’s end and LTE coverage in its entire current 3G footprint by the end of 2013. An AT&T executive has stated that AT&T plans to launch LTE this summer in five markets: Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Clearwire has also stated that it will transition to LTE. As reported by CNNMoney, sources have stated that Twitter has acquired TweetDeck for $40 million made up of cash and stock. The deal has not been officially announced by either Twitter or TweetDeck. As has been discussed in tech news since February, Twitter had to either buy TweetDeck or put up with a major competitor that could substantially cut into Twitter’s ad revenue if UberMedia were to snap up TweetDeck instead.
Cradlepoint has released firmware 1.8.2 for the CTR500, MBR1200, MBR1000, MBR900, MBR800, MBR90, CBA750, CBA250, and CX111 products which enables support for a number of new modems but most notably adds support for Verizon’s Novatel USB551L, the nicest of the Verizon 4G LTE modems available.
